“THE WORLD OF INDIGO” (with Pam Woodward)
March 10 - 11, 2012: 10 a.m. to 4. p.m.
Indigo dyes have been used around the world for centuries. It's no surprise that the mysteries and magic of indigo have held a special fascination for dyers, no matter their level of experience. Spend a weekend "getting blue" using a variety of techniques on assorted fabrics. You will be amazed.

 “PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES ON FABRIC” with Gunnel Hag
March 31, 2012: 10 a.m. to 4. p.m.
Photographs on cloth present a huge range of possibilities. Explore 3 different techniques for creating photographic pieces that can stand alone or be incorporated into a mixed media piece.

“IRRESISTIBLE RESISTS” with Gunnel Hag
April 14, 2012: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Experiment with the use of soy wax to create a wide range of patterns and textures on fabric. Learn how to mix pigment colours as well as a variety of  techniques for hand painting/dyeing and making simple stamps and stencils to create gorgeous resist printed fabrics with exquisite colour and complexity. Workshop includes Colour Vie pigments and wax used in class.Truly irresistible!

"BEADED EMBELLISHMENT WORKSHOP" 
(with Pam Woodward)
April 21 - 22, 2012: 10 a.m. to 4. p.m.
Who can resist beading on fabric? Beading can add colour, texture, light and 3D to your textile projects. Three basic stitches plus edgings and fringes will be covered in this 2 day workshop. Imagine combining beading with your other embellishment techniques.

“INTENSIVE SCREEN PRINTING ON FABRIC” 
with Gunnel Hag
April 28 - 29, 2012: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Interested in home decorating, quilting or fashion? Do you want a specific colour combination and imagery on your fabric? Learn how to create simple motifs as well as prints with fine and detailed imagery, which can be repeated over and over to create your own unique yardage.
This intensive screen printing workshop will take you from the basics to photo emulsion in two inspiring days.
You will explore a variety of techniques for creating artwork on acetate, which you will then use to make a permanent photo emulsion screen. Wash and reuse your screen, and create prints in countless colour combinations. Workshop includes Colour Vie pigments, acetates and emulsion used in class, and one silk screen - yours to take home after the workshop.

"CREATING LAYERED TEXTURES AND PATTERNS" 
with Gunnel Hag
May 12 - 13, 2012: 10 a.m. to 4. p.m.
On the first day of this workshop you will build a surface structure for fabrics from scratch.  Using tools, processes and colour combinations, the ‘ground cloth’ will be prepared. Experiment with the layering of colors, textures and patterns using Colour Vie pigments - a direct and easy way of creating multilayered fabrics. Layering, pulling-back colour, rubbing, mark-making and using "found objects" create unique effects. Learn how to design on the fly directly on the fabric.
Techniques include: dyeing the fabric, stenciling, stamping, painting, spraying and embellishing with gold pigments and metallic foil. The result: exclusive fabrics with depth and interest.
$180 (+HST)

What to bring to Gunnel’s Workshops:
- Up to 5 yards of pre-washed 100% cotton fabric for printing (rayon or silk optional)
- Cotton T-shirt, place mats etc. (optional)
- Apron and Rubber Gloves
- Empty containers with lids (e.g. small yogurt containers or other inexpensive containers)
- Lunch (we have a fridge and a microwave oven)

If the workshop is cancelled (insufficient attendance) you will receive a full refund or a credit towards another workshop. If you must cancel for personal reasons, refunds or credits are given only if you contact us by phone or in writing 7 days before the date of the workshop.


About Owner and Instructor: Gunnel Hag...

Gunnel Hag is an enthusiastic, innovative and creative teacher.
She studied Textiles at Stockholm University, Sweden and the Royal College of Art, London, England.
For over thirty years she has owned and operated Trees Textile Designers and Printers in Toronto, currently producing printed and dyed fabrics for film and theatre companies in Canada and the United States.
Her clothing and interior fabrics have been represented at International Design exhibitions. She has received many grants and awards for her work, including OAC grants and a Ministry of Industry and Trade Award.
Gunnel was a professor in the Textile Studio at Sheridan College, School of Craft and Design in Oakville, Ontario for twelve years. In 2002 she was a visiting lecturer at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India.
Gunnel has published two books: ‘Creating Texture’ and ‘Creating Texture: Soft Textures.
Her concern with health and safety, both in her studio and in the classroom, has led Gunnel to actively promote the water based Colour Vie Pigment System for the past twenty years.

About Pam Woodward...
Pam Woodward is a Toronto based textile artist who has worked in theatre, film, and television costuming for over 40 years.
She has specialized in surface design techniques including dyeing, painting, embellishments, and fabric manipulation.
She has taught breakdown, the ageing and distressing of costumes, as part of Seneca College’s post diploma Film Wardrobe program.
